<><><><><><><>

Next month is the Annual Meeting.

I know we had one in February so why change back to November?  Well as we now pay subs in April, it did seem sensible to move the Annual Meeting nearer to that date.  But unfortunately, that meant the meeting moved further away from the end of the financial year.  This hasn’t changed, so Hilary is currently preparing her accounts for this year which ended on 30 September.  So by the time February comes around the information in that report is somewhat out of date.  Many Wis also complained about the change as it caused confusion as to what period of activities we were reporting on.

The change also caused problems for the Federation.   Eg.  They produce a new Yearbook of each WI’s Officers and the speakers list, with the information sent in after our Annual Meetings.  Three copies for each WI are given out at FAM in March to save an enormous (and growing) postage bill.  Not having WI Annual Meetings until February meant it was almost impossible to get these booklets completed, checked and printed in the short time available.

We can now go back to working to a calendar year.  The fact that subs are due in April, does not affect that, and we can book speakers give out our programmes for the year in December as before.

A Final Plea.  Please, please consider putting yourself forward to be on the Committee for next year, the more members involved, the easier it is.

Remember, no Committee no WI.  They say the more you put in to something, the more you get out and you will be helping to continue Poringland WI into it’s 105th year.

Newsletter September 2024

 Poringland WI Newsletter September 2024

Did you see the suggested plans during the consultation about the Parish Council’s Community Project for the intended use of the land between Carr Lane, The Community woodland and the Ridings?

It is a large open space and has several fields with paths for walking (especially dogs).  The main area gets rather boggy after wet weather, but new pipes are to be installed to solve that.

The PC have applied for Planning permission for: A Pavilion, Multi Use Games Area, Skate Park, Pump Track within the wood land, Zip Line, Car Parking, Allotments and Community Storage Sheds etc.

They are also applying for extra funding to cover the cost.  Maybe we could attend the Parish Council meetings to find out how this is coming on.  Meetings are held on the second Wed each month at 6pm.

Thank you to everyone who sent greetings on my recent Birthday.

We enjoyed a good long break away from Norfolk.  The weather was kind and we enjoyed spending time with family members and their assorted doggy companions.  I had 3 celebrations – with Phil and family in Wiltshire, with Richard’s brother and his wife and with Ellen in Lincoln.  We did lots of walking – along the Kennet and Avon Canal, up on the Ridge Way, and up Steep Hill in Lincoln.  So despite all the cake consumed I was pleasantly surprised to find I had not gained any weight!

They slipped up on me gradually, each wrinkle and each fold,

and I hardly noticed till a small child said “You’re Old”

She place her soft arm next to mine, (intending no abuse)

“My skin is very tight” she said “and all your skin is loose!”

I get a lot of compliments and flattery from you,

and in my vanity I’d like to think that they are true.

Bur if one wants sheer honesty, that’s pure and undefiled,

there’s nothing like the candor that is spoken by a child.
