Federation Annual Meeting Thursday 13 March,

Theatre Royal 10.45am – 3.45pm.  Delegate ticket free, visitors £13.

Speaker will be Arit Anderson garden designer, writer and presenter on BBCs Gardeners’ World.

Lunch or lunch boxes and refreshments available.  Stalls and exhibitions to explore.

Bridge Day Wednesday 19 March 

10am for a 10.30 start – 3.30pm.

£22 includes lunch of Jacket potato with choice of fillings followed by Ginger sponge or fruit salad 

 

Summer Garden Party at Wiveton Hall NR25 7TE.

Tuesday 17 June 2-6pm £40.

Includes afternoon tea and tour of the gardens with Desmond, famed for the programme ‘Normal for Norfolk’ that featured the hall.  Glass of wine £3 extra.

Resolution Shortlist for 2025: to be debated/voted for in January.

1. Let’s talk about Incontinence.
It is estimated to be a problem for 20 million people, and more is needed in the care of these sufferers.

 

2. Bystanders can be life savers.
over 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests each year in UK.  Women have a lower chance of survival than men.  Early action doubles the chances of survival.  We are asked to work to increase public confidence and training in the delivery of CPR and improve access to defibrillators.

 

3. Join the repair revolution
Promoting clothing reuse and repair.  What we used to call make do and mend!

4. Eliminate landfill of medication packaging.
Not routinely recyclable through local authority collections.  Raise awareness and encourage additional collection points where empty packaging can be easily returned or recycling to reduce environmental impact, and by exploring simpler packaging alternatives that are easier to recycle.

Matters Arising:

a]​Craft Fairs:    Helpers were needed to sell craft on 16th November at (a) am Hempnall and Brooke House date to be confirmed.

 

MAGAZINE AND NEWS:     Magazine has been distributed.    Federation ‘What’s On’ in newsletter and displayed on the notice board..

 

NOVEMBER  ANNUAL MEETING:  

It was explained to the members why our Annual Meeting is now moved back to November.  Nominations are needed for committee otherwise ‘no committee, no WI’.  Forms were distributed to members for this.  Those current committee members not wishing to stand again were mentioned.

 

AOB.  Outing suggestions were requested and the Centenay Salver outlined, volunteers are need to help with this.

 

The President then welcomed Lynton Johnson who gave a talk about his collection of Royal Commemorative China. He had brought with him many items and gave very interesting and amusing stories behind them.  He was thanked by Liz.

 

Refreshments were then taken and the raffle was drawn.  Each member who had acommemorative item in the exhibition gained 1 competition point.

 

Meeting closed 3.55pm.

Annual Meeting Business
      New Committee – voting not necessary

​Review of Byelaws.  Proposal to reduce number of committee members from next year to 8, unless the number of members increases significantly.  This does not affect the nominations this year.

​Appointment of Auditors - Federation Independent Financial Examiner.

​Presentation and Adoption of Financial Statement
      President asks for questions, and then a seconder for adoption of financial statement

​Committee’s Annual Report presented by Secretary

​President’s address and then propose adoption of Annual Report, seconder.

​New Committee names announced in alphabetical order, as there were 9 nominees willing to stand, and the maximum is 10, no vote is needed.

Remember the little oak trees we grew and that Chris Skinner planted for us? I have a few more growing now and if anyone has any to donate I am happy to take them along to High Ash.  Now is the time for planting out.

Our Local Events

10 Pin Bowling sessions Namco.  Friday 11 & 25 October @10am. 

Next Walk: Tuesday 22 October (note change of date) Meet in WI House 45 All Saints Green at 11am.  Lunch in J Lewis at 1pm.  Parking may be available, I will check with the office.

Singalong session on Thursday 24 October 10.30am, @ Pam Lack’s.  Hillcrest, Bungay road, lift available – ask Lesley.

PORINGLAND W I MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY

The Meeting began with the singing of Jerusalem.

 

APOLOGIES:   from Kirsty; Jeanette; Jean G; Sue; Myrtle, Gillian

NEWS OF MEMBERS:   Members were delighted to see Mary Stancer and wished her well.   Jean Gowing was improving and it was hoped she would soon be able to return to the meetings.  Christine Wise has unfortunately left to return to S Africa.

 

BIRTHDAY POSIES:  presented to Nina Fairman; Shirley Gray; Lesley; Judith Finn; Joan Porter; Veronica Horsfall.

 

MINUTES:  for July approved and signed.

Matters Arising:

A]      Garden Party:   Enjoyed by all those who were able to attend, and £88.00 less expenses was raised for funds.  Hilary thanked everyone who helped in any way, and attended on the day.

B]      Outings:   If any members have any ideas for outings to let Lesley or Joan know.

 

MAGAZINE AND CORRESPONDENCE:   Magazine distributed.  There are invitations from Loddon WI on 18^th September and Denton WI on 1^st October.   All details in the newsletter.

 

OCTOBER MEETING:    The speaker will be Lynton Johnson and his talk is ‘Royal Commemorative China’.   Competition is ‘Exhibition of Commemorative china’.  Tea ladies – Jeanette & Pat.  VOT, Liz volunteered.  Members were reminded that nominations would be required for committee as the AGM has been moved back to November.

 

ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

Minutes continued

A]      Subscriptions:  A suggestion for members to consider, is that subs will be due in April, and can be paid, in 4 instalments, between Jan and April, and to speak to Hilary if you would like to do this.

B]      Craft:   The next craft meeting at Joan’s is on 10^th October .

 

The President then welcomed Peter Lawrence with his talk ‘A Policeman’s Lot’.   He stated that he had always wanted to be a policeman and this talk was from when he joined at 18years and his first ‘posting’ in London  He told of many incidents with illustrations, of that time, Comical, sad, and some very thought -provoking.   He was thanked by Judith FInn.

 

Competition was won by Lesley and Raffle drawn.

Meeting closed 4pm.

Next month is the Annual Meeting.

I know we had one in February so why change back to November?  Well as we now pay subs in April, it did seem sensible to move the Annual Meeting nearer to that date.  But unfortunately, that meant the meeting moved further away from the end of the financial year.  This hasn’t changed, so Hilary is currently preparing her accounts for this year which ended on 30 September.  So by the time February comes around the information in that report is somewhat out of date.  Many Wis also complained about the change as it caused confusion as to what period of activities we were reporting on.

The change also caused problems for the Federation.   Eg.  They produce a new Yearbook of each WI’s Officers and the speakers list, with the information sent in after our Annual Meetings.  Three copies for each WI are given out at FAM in March to save an enormous (and growing) postage bill.  Not having WI Annual Meetings until February meant it was almost impossible to get these booklets completed, checked and printed in the short time available.

We can now go back to working to a calendar year.  The fact that subs are due in April, does not affect that, and we can book speakers give out our programmes for the year in December as before.

A Final Plea.  Please, please consider putting yourself forward to be on the Committee for next year, the more members involved, the easier it is. 

Remember, no Committee no WI.  They say the more you put in to something, the more you get out and you will be helping to continue Poringland WI into it’s 105^th year.
